New Deputy Commander Takes over at NATO Rapid Deployable Corps-Italy

SOLBIATE OLONA (VA), 18 SEP 2006. After almost three years Major General Roger LANE, Deputy Commander of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Italy (NRDC-IT), handed over his appointment to Major General David BILL.

Major General LANE played a crucial role in the preparation phase of the Corps staff for its first operational tour in Afghanistan and to a great extent to the overall success of the mission as ISAF VIII Deputy Commander for Operations. For his achievements he was awarded of the Croce di Comendatore al Merito della Repubblica Italiana by the Italian Defense Minister during the ceremony marking the return of the ISAF VIII contingent in Milan last May. Major General LANE returns to the United Kingdom where he will retire from the Armed Forces in February next year.

Major General BILL was Commander Engineer at Headquarters Land at Wilton where he was responsible for the planning and coordination of engineer operations worldwide and subsequently as Brigadier General Staff for the strategic planning of the Headquarters and the Command. His last appointment was the General Officer Commanding United Kingdom Support Command in Germany.
