Commander UK Maritime Forces visits HQ NRDC-ITA as NRF 9 draws near

SOLBIATE OLONA (VA) 13 Mar 07. HQ NRDC-ITA welcomes Rear Admiral Morisetti, Commander UK Maritime Forces on a fact finding visit.

HQ NRDC-ITA has had the pleasure of hosting a visit by Rear Admiral Morisetti of the UK’s Royal Navy, in his capacity Maritime Component Commander for NRF 9.

Admiral Morisetti’s primary objective was to receive an update on NRDC-ITA’s structure and capabilities, and in particular to be briefed on the HQ’s preparations for NRF 9.

Admiral Morisetti will be the Commander of the NRF 9 Maritime Component at the same time as HQ NRDC-IT A undertakes the lead of the Land Component Command element.

In order that the two headquarters are fully up to date on each others capabilities and responsibilities, the Admiral attended a series of briefings and meetings with the Commander NRDC-ITA and his key staff officers.

As the headquarters approach the NRF 9 period they are participating in closely linked and rigorous training exercises, which will prove their combat readiness. These exercises will test all three components’ capabilities to undertake any tasks required of them during the NRF period, such as evacuations, disaster management, counterterrorism, and acting as ‘an initial entry force’ for larger, follow-on forces.

In order to face these challenges, it is vital that the components train together in a joint and coherent environment. This week’s visit was just one way of ensuring this happens.

It was not all hard work though. The Admiral and Mrs Morisetti also found time to be hosted at receptions at the Palazzo Cusani and enjoy an opera at La Scala theatre in Milan, as well as visit other cultural attractions.
